Roadside Tree Removal: Diseased Beech Trees
Beechwood Tree Care was brought in to safely remove two large beech trees that had been significantly affected by disease. Both trees were affected by fungal decay, leaving the timber increasingly brittle and prone to failure. Their roadside location added another level of complexity, with a steep slope, overhead phone lines and limited space to safely bring down large sections of the trees.

The project involved the complete removal of two large beech trees positioned alongside a main road. Both trees had been significantly affected by fungal decay, weakening the timber and increasing the risk of failure.
With the trees standing on a steep slope and surrounded by phone lines, they couldn’t simply be felled from ground level. Our team planned the roadside tree removal carefully, putting the necessary traffic management and equipment in place before dismantling the trees in controlled sections.
A full road closure provided a safe working area for our team and the space needed to carry out the removal without putting road users or the public at risk.

The condition of the trees meant particular care was needed throughout the removal. Fungal decay had weakened the timber, making sections more brittle and increasing the risk of unexpected failure.
Our team carefully dismantled the crowns of both beech trees, removing smaller sections before moving on to the larger pieces of timber. These were lowered onto the closed carriageway, allowing us to maintain control while working around the nearby phone lines and other obstacles.
Once both trees had been safely removed, the roadside was left clear, and the risk posed by the weakened trees had been addressed.
Project Outcome
The work was completed successfully within the planned road closure, allowing the road to be reopened once the site had been cleared.
Despite the challenging location and condition of the beech trees, our team completed the project efficiently with minimal disruption to the surrounding area.
