Good morning. It’s Neil from Beechwood Tree Care. So let’s have a look at the job we’re doing today. So today we’re on a monster hedge trimming job. This is a job that we have now been doing for 26 years, and there are hedges everywhere. We’ve got four teams on site, all paired up and doing various hedges.
We will travel around and have a look at each one of them and what they’re up to. As you can hear, it’s not even eight o’clock, and the teams are already getting started.
I’ve got Ollie and Daisy over there in the Rose garden doing the yews. That big long hedge over there is Flynn and Etienne. This one here that surrounds the croquet pitch is going to be done by Archie and Adam. They’re just getting the MEWP out. Down the bottom of the road I have got Solly and Rowan.
Here comes the MEWP. The guys are tracking it over board so they don’t put too much of a dent on the lawn. Then Archie will set it up there. Looks like he’s going a little bit further down actually, and he’s going to trim the outside of this hedge from the MEWP, that’s the most efficient way to do it. They’re just what we call leapfrogging over board. Board over board, over board, until they get to where they want to be. Should probably only be a little bit further because then they’ll be able to reach 12 metres that way and 12 metres that way, and they won’t have to move the MEWP too many times.
This section of hedge is really interesting if you are a tree geek, this is a beach and it looks enormous. It has been here at least for the 26 years that we’ve been doing it, and it’s taken that long to grow, but when you come through the stems really aren’t that thick. That’s the gnarly growth because it’s been trimmed so many times it has just kept the stem growth down.
We can see Archie’s progressing nicely here with this hedge. We always cut these hedges back really hard. Sometimes it’s a little bit bare. But they really need that strong treatment we’ve learned over the years to stop them falling apart. You get a big hedge like this and it can bulge as it is weighted down by its own weight. But look at the job he’s doing there it’s fantastic. There is a real satisfaction in doing a hedge prune sometimes.
That hedge is looking really nice. One of the better hedging plants, I think this is. I like how the shapes are being allowed to develop here. It really comes out nicely. You can see that immaculate cleanup as well.
You come through into the rose garden and you can see the yews. Holly’s done a really nice job here. It collapsed a little bit from snow damage but the customers decided to leave that and just embrace it, which I think is great. We tried over the years to keep them absolutely square and it’s just almost impossible.
So again, down here, Ollie and Daisy have done some wonderful work, and it looks great. I’m really pleased with how this has come out. I think this was a combination of Flynn, Tom and Etienne. It’s a real credit to them. This is the bit that most people don’t see, but they’ve put just as much effort into this side. If we just go through here, I really like this view, aren’t they cool.
And then here is the croquet lawn. Our customers pride and joy. And the big beach heads surrounding it.This was starting to bulge out and flop down a bit so Archie’s hit this back really hard this year just to make sure that we try and keep it as square as possible and again, he’s done a fantastic job, I’m really pleased with what he’s got out there. That’s great.
The other bits of hedging are down the far end of this garden. So a little bit of laurel there, and then all the hedge all the way along the bottom as you come in has been trimmed as well.
That gives you a nice insight into this big hedge cutting job. I’m really proud to have done this for the last 26 years. This job makes me feel a bit old, but it’s really lovely when you can come back time and time again and get such great results.
So well done the team and thanks for watching. See you in the next video.
